Glen Abbey Golf Course is one of Canada's most famous golf courses and has been a grand stage for golf history since its opening. It was designed by legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus and has hosted the RBC Canadian Open, a PGA Tour event and Canada's National Open Championship 28 times – more than any other course. It is also home to Golf Canada and the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame. This is where, in 2000, Tiger Woods hit the shot of the year out of a fairway bunker on the 72nd hole of the Canadian Open to win by a single stroke!

WENDEL CLARK | WHAT I LEARNED FROM SOME OF THE BEST LEADERS IN THE GAME

9:00 AM – 10:00 AM | FRIDAY, JUNE 9, 2023

Wendel Clark, former Captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs, will speak about Leadership and what he learned from playing with and against some of the greatest leaders in the game. From being drafted 1st Overall as an 18-year-old and what the experience was for him coming from a very small town in Western Canada to Toronto, and all the ‘Firsts’, he had in his 1st NHL season.

Wendel Clark was one of the most beloved players ever to wear the Toronto Maple Leafs jersey. The former team captain, his rambunctious playing style, and exceptional talent on the ice endeared him to fans. Now an ambassador for the team and a spokesperson for a number of corporations, Clark’s star power continues to shine. Clark retired from the NHL in 2000. His last season brought his career full circle from its beginnings in 1985 with the Leafs. Overall in his career, Clark recorded 330 goals, 234 assists, 564 points, and 1,690 penalty minutes. He was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team and was second in voting for the Calder Trophy. He was selected to the NHL All-Star Game in 1986 and 1999.

Wendel had his number ‘17’ retired by the Maple Leafs, and in 2017, he was honoured once again with his statue unveiled on Legends Row outside of Scotiabank Arena. Wendel is an active entrepreneur with four Wendel Clark Classic Grill restaurants in Ontario and Saskatchewan. He lends his name to various charity endeavours across Canada, including his own Wendel Clark Charity Golf Classic, now in its 20th year, and the Wendel Clark Muskoka Ice Cup, new in 2022.  Wendel and his wife spend their time between their home in Toronto and their summer home in Muskoka, Ontario.

ALAN MALLORY | Reaching New Heights in Safety and Risk Management

Alan’s safety programs are not about avoiding risk; they are about studying and thoroughly understanding the safety challenges to identify, minimize, and control risks for safe and successful results. Learning Objectives:

- Safety planning, preparation and establishing procedures
- Agile practices in risk identification and management
- Incorporating lessons learned from the past in your industry
- Contingency planning and developing response strategies
- Root cause analysis and preventative action

Alan is an international speaker, author and performance coach passionate about leadership and reaching new heights in all we do! His unique philosophy of life revolves around empowering people and embracing an agile mentality focused on goals and results. By understanding what drives and motivates us, we can cultivate more innovative and effective ways of thinking and taking action. Alan holds a degree in engineering from Queen’s University and a masters in psychology from Adler University, giving him a well-balanced approach to the outer and inner challenges we all face. Alan has worked internationally with large organizations as a professional engineer and project manager, developing patents and solutions to complex mining and metals industry challenges. Living and working abroad has given him the opportunity to deepen his understanding of individual and team challenges, better appreciate cultural diversity, and successfully adapt to different organizational structures.
